About the Show:
Presented as part of MINDS WIDE OPEN: Virginia Celebrates Women in the Arts, RADIUM GIRLS, by Pulitzer-prize nominated playwright D.W. Gregory, is based on the tragic true story surrounding the U.S. Radium Corporation scandal of the 1920's. In the sleepy suburbs of Orange, New Jersey, nearly one hundred young, female factory-workers were slowly poisoned to death with radium. Part courtroom drama, part chilling cautionary tale, RADIUM GIRLS is also a theatrical tour de force: nine actors play more than thirty parts in a sweeping production spanning several decades. This haunting play presents a wry, unflinching looks at a scientific discovery, flaunted as a miracle cure, that instead spread new diseases, toppled successful businesses, devasted families, and spurred an inspiring battle for justice.

"Radium Girls may speak to our collective capacity for denial. But it also celebrates our individual courage." (The Daily Record, Morristown, NJ)

"the best new play" in New Jersey professional theatre. (The Star-Ledger)

(Comedy/Drama, 4 to 5m, 5w)
The Cast of Radium Girls
Jim Barbour as Lee
Jim Barbour is thrilled to be back onstage at CAT. He was last seen on CAT's stage in "Harvey" and has previously appeared in "Rough Crossing", "Charley's Aunt" and "Let's Murder Marsha." During his absence from the CAT stage, he continued to stay active in other local theatres, film, and television. When he wasn't serving up murder mysteries in Williamsburg at the Haunted Dinner Theater, he was filming episodes of truTV's "Forensic Files" and Investigation Discovery Channel's "Wicked Attractions" and "The Bureau." Jim will also be seen in the upcoming feature film, "Law and Disorder" winner of Best Feature Award at the 2009 Pare Lorentz International Film Festival. Jim wishes to thank director, Amy Berlin, and the very talented cast for making this such an enjoyable experience. Also, he wishes to thank his loving wife, family and many friends for their support. As always, he dedicates this performance to the memory of his beloved daughter, JoAnna, his biggest fan.

Many thanks to God, Dad, director Amy Berlin, and the entire "Girls" cast and crew, for their collective support, guidance, and unwavering belief. Worthy praise is also in order for his Labrador "kids," Steve and Annie, who remain this man's best friends.
